“There is pleasure in the pathless woods, there is rapture in the lonely shore, there is society where none intrudes, by the deep sea, and music in its roar; I love not Man the less, but Nature more.” ~ Lord Byron

Leaving the peaceful island of St. George, we continued our westward expansion and made our way out of Florida…finally! Following the shoreline of the Gulf of Mexico we crossed over into Alabama. I always do the driving duties while Treva finds our next camping location and other points of interest. She managed to get us a nice campsite on the shore of Middle Lake that is encompassed within Gulf State Park, which is located in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

The Parks Commission here has really done an outstanding job of keeping the nature here…natural. They have learning centers in the park and at the beach to educate people about the local ecosystem. There’s miles of bike paths to enjoy that will take you to every corner of these many acres of park.

Look at the map below. There’s nature centers, fishing piers, restaurants, miles of beach, almost six hundred campsites, and a butterfly garden!

This area is known as the oyster capital of the world!

I hope you find yourself here on some relaxing sunny day.

The gam continues…
