Gulf Coast

“No matter where I drift, I belong down bayou.” ~ Anonymous

We left Alabama and headed for Mississippi, following the Gulf Coast as tightly as possible in order to travel through Cajun country, just to see how people live down in the bayou. We ventured through places like Bellefontaine, Bayou La Batre, Des Allemands, Chacahoula, Calumet, Bayou Vista, Broussard, among others. We stayed overnight at the Cypress Tap House in Ocean Springs. It’s a bar, restaurant and brewery that are part of the Harvest Host network. We stayed for free in the back parking lot along with some fellow travelers, all of whom patronized the establishment for some grub and suds that evening.

We stopped for breakfast on our way out and ran into this lonely driver…

In Morgan City, Louisiana we stayed at a campground in a city-owned park. Our view was sunrises, houseboats, and an infinite variety of birds. I’m not an ornithologist so I couldn’t tell you what most of these birds were named. Treva’s the bird lover of the two of us. She enjoyed her time here simply because of the birds. We also liked to walk the mile-long trail that circumnavigated the park.

The squirrels down here are all black; and not just one odd one, they’re all black! As you can tell we’ve never seen black squirrels before.

While I was here in Morgan City I went to visit Mr. Charlie. I’ll introduce you in the next post.

I hope you have lots of beautiful nature ba-you.

The gam continues…
