San Diego

”You stay classy, San Diego.” ~ Ron Burgundy

This was our view when we stepped outside during halftime of the Superbowl

We drove in from Las Vegas. It was a long six hours to reach our ultimate destination …San Diego! Our familiar home (three times.) Our old stomping grounds. Our West Coast domicile. One of our favorite places on the planet.

And just a few days before we arrived we were able to score a premium site, right at water’s edge, in Mission Bay RV Park. Trust me, it was like winning the lottery!

Once we arrived we realized the best way to enjoy this community was by pedal power so we bought ourselves some folding bikes to roam the endless amount of bike trails, like the one that goes right by our campsite.

The plan is to remain here and other locations along the Southern California coast until Fourth of July weekend when Michael & Stephanie get married. After that, we will meander east to see more of this beautiful country.

Home, sweet home.

We’re the blue dot near the top, next to the water. From there we can see all around Mission Bay and all the way over to SeaWorld. On some weekend nights SeaWorld puts on a fireworks display.

Fiesta Island, in the middle of Mission Bay, is a crown jewel for us. Out there, you’re free to do so many different things. Around the island you can go fishing, boating, jet skiing, parasailing, sculling, swimming, paddle boarding, etc…

On the island you can race remote control cars, planes, helicopters, and drones. You can run, ride your bike, ride your horse and there’s even an area where you can shoot off rockets. In fact, Fiesta Island was birthplace to the very first triathlon…September 24, 1974.

They have giant fire pits on the perimeter beaches around the island where you can make huge fires! We made one just last week.

The best part about Fiesta Island is that it’s a no leash island! Everyone brings their dogs out there to run free. We take Kodi out there almost everyday for an hour of walking. We follow the myriad of trails while Kodi chases rabbits and gets some social time with other dogs. Also out here, on the southwestern peninsula, (it’s all green on the map) is one of the largest and one of the best dog parks in the country. We go there once in a while but prefer the open trails on the rest of the island. It was amazing that we haven’t been here in almost five years and yet, as we approached the island Kodi started whimpering and getting excited because he recognized his old island playground.

Another great perk about living in San Diego is… No mosquitoes! No bugs to speak of. No gnats. No no-see-ums. No cockroaches. No spiders. Nothing annoying like that.

There is plenty of wildlife, especially birds…

Oh, we also have neighbors who like to invite themselves over anytime they want…

Some other sights to see around town…

San Diego is a beautiful place to live…

Our trip mileage for this epic journey so far is…

I hope you are staying warm this Winter.

The gam continues…
