“Because of the dog’s joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift.” ~ Mary Oliver

Disney likes to call themselves “The Happiest Place On Earth.” Well, I hate to disappoint them but…
…the happiest place on Earth is Dog Beach in San Diego. It’s a part of Ocean Beach that is dedicated to the freedom of dogs, who once they step on this beach become puppies again. With no leash law and the open ocean as their playground these four-legged furballs can run, jump, splash, chase, frolic, and, otherwise, do whatever they want!
This place is a little slice of heaven. If you’re having a bad day in life or a tough day at work and you need to de-stress or get an attitude adjustment, all you have to do is go to Dog Beach. There’s no fighting, no growling, no testiness at the end of a leash. There’s no big dogs pouncing on small dogs. It’s just one big party of dogs of all breeds and all sizes and all ages running rampant and they are having an amazing time! The abundance of joy here is infectious!

Why does watching a dog be a dog fill one with happiness? I suppose it’s due to the bond between humans and dogs, which has strengthened over time and brings happiness to both parties. Additionally, dogs have an incredible ability to make people smile and turn ordinary moments into sources of joy. I also read that being around dogs can amp up levels of oxytocin, the chemical that makes people feel happy. In times of great joy, all of us should wish we had a tail that we could wag.

I hope you play like a dog, with total, jolly abandon.
The gam continues…
