The Outer Banks

We started our epic journey by stopping to visit a few family members along our southerly route, enjoying some meals, pleasant conversations, and long goodbyes. Two overnights were spent in Cracker Barrel parking lots. They allow overnight parking and hope that you will eat some meals or shop in their gift store, which we did. I loves me some fried catfish and okra! Eventually, we made our way down here to the Outer Banks on Cape Hatteras where we spent a week relaxing and sorting out our new life. The beach was right behind our camper. It was wonderful having the ocean wind and crashing waves lull us to sleep every night. Being on a strip of land that’s surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean also afforded us both a sunrise and a sunset everyday.

All of these pictures were within a hundred yards of our camper/home except the lighthouse.

Our neighbor caught some type of shark. Yes, he put it back in the ocean to swim away.

We spent most our time here in the Outer Banks, or OBX as the locals call it, either relaxing or reorganizing our new life on the road. That’s why we stayed here this week. It’s been a real challenge going from a three bedroom house to a one bedroom camper/home. Each day we learn something new about the camper or we make some new space somewhere, usually by throwing something else away. We’ve probably shed a thousand pounds in firewood, water, and food just this week. Our rig felt overloaded when we left New Hampshire. Now she’ll be a comfortable weight as we head south tomorrow.

I hope you get the opportunity to explore this beautiful country.

The gam continues…
