”A bad day camping is still better than a good day working.” ~ Anonymous

So we left New Bern, winding our way down the East Coast, scheduling about four hours of travel time for each day. We stayed at a KOA in the Myrtle Beach area where they upgraded us (for free) to a river side campsite, but then we had to spend the saved money on an electrical issue with the camper. After that we stayed at a KOA on the Florida/Georgia line. It was kinda’ damp there along the St. Mary River but we did enjoy the free waffles for breakfast.

Once in Florida, we stayed at a KOA in Davenport for a half dozen days. This time was spent reorganizing our load, doing laundry, shopping for things we need, organizing paperwork to become Florida residents, and visiting with friends in the area. Being tourist is on the back burner as we continue to adjust to our new life on the road. Having our beautiful pup Kodi also limits the places we can visit, which we are not complaining about at all. We’ll get to be tourists when we visit the Florida Keys.

One constant that has helped us on this journey, and the motivation for this page, is all of the campgrounds in the Kampgrounds Of America network. The KOA brand has always seemed to have a stigma around it but I’m not really sure why…? The prices don’t seem to be ridiculous when compared to other campgrounds. The camps have been clean and the people have been friendly. Most have decent amenities like laundry, swimming pools/hot tubs, and cafes where you can get a bite to eat. The camp stores have all of the products you use to sustain your camping lifestyle, like parts you need for minor repairs on your camper. We didn’t plan on staying at KOA’s, it just happened that they consistently offered the best product for the best price. So, I’m not sure why KOA has a slightly negative reputation but we’ve enjoyed our stays and we think KOA is A-OK.

I hope you give KOA a try.

The gam continues…
