Ocean Cay

”Take me to the ocean, let me sail the open sea. To breathe the warm and salty air and dream of things to be.” ~ Erica Billups

After a day in Nassau we set sail on the azure seas. MSC, the ship line we were sailing with, owns a spit of land (or two) that rest comfortably in the blue waters of the Atlantic, somewhere in the Bahamian region, within the district of Bimini. This island was manmade by dredging back in the 60’s. MSC has taken possession of it and is charged with developing and maintaining Ocean Cay as a marine reserve.

A lone sentinel sits waiting to sculpt this future oasis…

On this island, made of Aragonite sand and pummeled coral, we enjoyed a relaxing few hours at a private beach with a cool breeze and a warm sun, where they served us fresh lobster rolls and mango cheesecake.

After a few hours of pleasant sunshine we took a leisurely stroll back to the ship where we chased our lunch with some decadent tiramisu gelato and a post-beach nap. Dinner that night was some fabulous lamb chops.

At five o’clock the next morning we sailed back into Miami to end this “slight detour.”

I hope the detours of your life pull you in magical directions.

The gam continues…
