“We must be willing to let go of the life we have planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us.” ~ E. M. Forster

Rincon Parkway Campground in Ventura County — right on the Pacific Coast Highway and right on the Pacific Ocean. We were here last year and loved it!

The amenities here are limited, that is to say there aren’t any amenities, which I find appealing. The plumbing and water are self-contained within the camper so we have to be conservative with our usage. There’s no electricity either. When we were here last year we had clouds the whole time which rendered our solar panel moot. Our single battery died on day three. Now we have two marine batteries banked together, a back-up generator (just in case), and abundant sunshine fueling our solar fuel cells, which is enough to give us heat, hot water, and the all-important ability to flush our toilet and charge our devices!

The biggest reason I find all of this semi-primitive camping appealing is because we have no TV. So we find ourselves communicating more, enjoying the beach and the weather more, reading and writing more, taking more pictures, playing games (Treva actually beat me at Yahtzee!) and simply listening to the waves.

Kodi is exhausted! When he gets on the beach he still thinks he’s a puppy instead of a vintage twelve year old.

As you saw in the last post a lot of things wash up on shore here. The Velella Velella are certainly the most unique creatures to wash ashore and our opportunity to see them was also very unique. They only appeared that one day — we haven’t seen them since!

The least unique is all of the driftwood that makes landfall here. It litters the beach from end to end. I like to think that a lot of the wood, especially the bamboo poles, have drifted all the way across the mighty Pacific Ocean from China, Japan, Tahiti and other points in the Far East.

The people who come to this beach are certainly resourceful as you can see by the many structures that have been created here with this wooden flotsam.

The view from our camper.

Kodi even used one of the bamboo teepees as his own personal outhouse…

He’s so discreet.

A neighbor…

Treva loves it here…

Last night’s sunset…

I hope you get to enjoy some time in your life without amenities…

The gam continues…
