The Corn Palace in Mitchell, South Dakota is a famous, one-of-a-kind attraction featuring massive exterior murals made completely from colored corn, grains, and native grasses. It serves as a multi-purpose community arena and hosts the annual Corn Palace Festival. 🌽

The first corn palace was created in 1892 to prove that South Dakota had a healthy, productive farming climate. The current building has stood in downtown Mitchell since 1921, with its signature onion domes added during the 1930’s. Workers strip and redecorate the building every year with a brand-new artistic theme using over 275,000 ears of corn. 🌽

Visitors to the world’s one and only Corn Palace enjoy classic “corny” humor, gift shops filled with corn-themed souvenirs, and detailed crop art displays both inside and outside. 🌽

I hope America is still around for another two hundred and fifty years of corny humor. 🌽
