We stopped in the quaint little town of Austin, Minnesota. It’s a neat town with its Main Street full of shops and restaurants and other curiosities.

I had been here before, about a dozen years ago, but I wanted Treva to experience the SPAM Museum for herself.

Since founding the Hormel company in 1891, George A. Hormel had grown his company from a packing plant housed in an abandoned creamery to a multi-million dollar force, but he knew that if he stayed in Austin, he would find it impossible to stay uninvolved in the daily details of the company, even in retirement, so he moved to Bel Air, California in 1929, turning the company’s reins over to its first vice president, son Jay C. Hormel, who would run the company until his untimely death in 1954.

There’s a lot to see and do here…

This SPAM-bassador was going around giving samples of their latest products. I tried the Gochuchang SPAM, which is a Korean flavor. It was delicious! She said that just yesterday they introduced a new Hot Honey SPAM! I bought a can to try later.

My friend Casey, who I just spent the summer working with at the KOA, lived in this town for thirty years. He took his mother to this SPAM Museum a few years ago…

SPAM is super-popular in Hawaii! You can even get SPAM at the McDonald’s in Hawaii…

SPAM infused into popular culture…

Treva enjoyed her visit to this museum as much as I thought she would. It really is a neat place. You should check it out if you’re ever in Austin.

I hope they develop a pineapple flavored SPAM.
