“A journey is a person in itself; no two are alike. And all plans, safeguards, policing, and coercion are fruitless. We find that after years of struggle that we do not take a trip; a trip takes us.” ~ John Steinbeck
Thank you for following along as I re-invent my life, which begins with a Great American Road Trip. I invite you to jump in the passenger seat and ride along on this epic journey.
The Plan…to live in San Diego, California starts on the afternoon of Friday, July 11th, which will be my last day working at Corp Brothers in Providence, Rhode Island. I will pack that evening and be in Maine, at a lakeside house the following afternoon, where I will spend a week with my family, swimming, boating, lounging, reading, writing and, of course, eating gargantuan amounts of lobster, then, from there, begin my journey westward.
The Plan…will be to traverse these beautiful United States of America between the 36th and 48th Parallels, seeing all that she has to offer, natural and man-made, stopping at as many roadside diners as possible, camping, hiking and photographing everything that moves me. I hope to meet remarkable people and other members of the animal kingdom as I travel through amber waves of grain and purple mountains majesty, enjoying this extraordinary adventure with an open time frame of two months to reach my new life in San Diego.
The Plan…to live in San Diego actually started to morph into a plan last year on the day that Treva, my Yugoslavian Love Monkey, was offered and accepted a great job in San Diego. She didn’t want to leave me but I convinced her that it was a golden opportunity not to be passed by and so, nine months ago she made the leap and is now a much happier Californian.
The Plan…to live in San Diego is, in itself, a journey that could last for years. The transmigration of America to reach that goal will be written here for all who wish to follow this once-in-a-lifetime adventure.
I hope my words will entertain you and my photos will inspire you to make and take your own life on a magical, once-in-a-lifetime odyssey.
The gam begins…
WOW!! May your journey to your new beginning be a safe one for you. I look forward to reading your blog about your adventure. I’ve known you more than half my life and wish you all the love and happiness you can find.
Your adventure is about to begin. You can only imagine how great it will be. Each day unfolds with new thoughts and feelings, you meet new people along the way, and find many unexpected treasures. I can’t believe it’s been a year since I took my trip. We are so lucky to be able to take a break in the middle of our life, to not only catch our breath, but to experience sights that will take your breath away.
Enjoy every moment. We will have great stories to tell for years. I am so proud of you.
As Amelia says, “Adventure is worthwhile in itself.”
